Several Factors Make It More Likely That You Will Get Acne

November 7, 2008 by admin

Many factors make it more likely that you will get acne:

  • Your age - rising hormones during teenage puberty
  • Being pregnant - changing hormone levels over nine months
  • Hormonal changes - especially right before your period
  • Heredity - having a parent who had acne
  • Medications - certain drugs can promote it
  • Wearing makeup - greasy cosmetics tend to clog pores

Prevention

You can’t prevent acne altogether, but you can take steps to lessen or control outbreaks. Unless otherwise suggested by your doctor:

  • Wash your face gently with a mild cleanser every morning, night and after exercise.
  • Shampoo your hair often with a mild shampoo; if you have very oily hair, you may want to wash it daily.
  • Women/teens: Choose oil-free cosmetics labeled non-comedogenic (meaning they are less likely to clog your pores).
